ALWAYS SERVING

Although we know that we are going to be expected to take on many responsibilities when we join various departments, some are not as obvious as others. Some things we do, just because we know it is the right thing. During the Christmas season, it is not uncommon to see members of the military in full uniform collecting and distributing toys for children whose families are not able to provide. An officer goes to a home to check on the welfare of an elderly, single woman who has not been seen for several days. Upon entering the very cold home, the officer is told that the woman has no heat and has not for a while because she cannot afford fuel. The officer goes back to the station, announces the need, and the woman's heat is restored and groceries are also delivered, all because of the caring officers. In a recent snow storm, firefighters were called to a residence and upon entry, they found the woman in labor. They safely deliver the child within minutes after their arrival.
Jesus came to this world to be an example to all of His Creation of how we are to serve: "...just as the Son of Man did not come be be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many." Matthew 20:28. "When He (Jesus) had finished washing their feet, (disciples) He put on His clothes and resumed His place. He asked them, 'Do you understand what I have done for you: You call me Teacher and Lord, and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you." John 13:12-15
"The measure of a man's greatness is not the number of servant he has, but the number of people he serves." John Hagee, pastor.author
