Dispatch received a call from a local, troublesome bar that once again, a fight was in progress. When three officers entered the tavern, they saw two women rolling around on the floor. As they were screaming at each other, they were pulling hair, punching, kicking, and scratching each other in the face whenever they had the opportunity. One of the officers jumped into the fray and grabbed a woman by the wrist. She immediately sunk her teeth into the officer’s hand and would not let go. Another officer grabbed her long hair and was able to separate the two women along with the pain-stricken officer. Embarrassed by the attack, he knew all too well that he had dropped his guard.
Once we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior and decide to get serious about are walk with Him, we may falsely believe that no harm will befall us. We cannot drop our guard and be lulled into a sense that we now are invincible. His word tells us that we will continue to go through difficult times, but we do not go them alone. John 16:33 tells us, “I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” As difficult as it may be at times, we are to welcome troubles that we have in this world. “Count it pure Joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” James 1:2-4.
